Turbinate monodont

Latin name: Nareîdula
Species profile
Phorcus turbinatus is a small cone-shaped sea snail. The house has a white-yellow base with purple-green dots and 5-6 spiral circles. It inhabits the tidal zone in large groups. Thanks to the horny cover (operculum), it can close the entrance of the house and thus maintain internal body moisture during low tide. It feeds on algae that it grazes by crawling on the rock. It reproduces sexually by male and female gametes in the spring. External fertilization occurs when the male releases spermatozoa and the female releases oocytes.
