Seahorse

Species profile
Seahorses (Hippocampus) are inhabitants of the sea with an unusual shape, it looks like a chess piece. These are fish from the superclass of teleosts, family of stilts (Syngnathidae). It swims upright and can evade its enemies by taking on the color of underwater plants. Seahorses are lovely inhabitants of warmer seas, they float evenly in the water, with their dorsal fin holding them upright. There are 54 species of seahorses, from the 2.5 cm dwarf species to the 25 cm Malayan seahorse.
