Peacock's tail

Latin name: Garbareîsa
Species profile
Peacock's tail is a very recognizable type of brown algae due to its fan-like funnel shape. Calcium deposits leave a white mark on the nail. Darker parts contain reproductive organs, gametes. It can also reproduce asexually by tetraspores. Colonies often originate from a singular specimen due to asexual reproduction. It is a eurythermic species, which allows it to survive more successfully in the event of large fluctuations in sea temperature. It lives in the coastal zone up to depth of 20m. It is very sensitive to being exposed to air during low tide.
