Latin name: Olindias
Species profile
Medusa is transparent with a bell of 4 to 6cm in diameter. It has 4 radial canals with yellow orange or reddish gonads along entire length. There are 2 set of tentacles on the bell margin, the primary with reddish coloration and adhesive pads, and darker secondary tentacles. It is residing clinging on seagrass or macro-algae during the day and it becomes active and swims in the water column after the sunset. It can be observed in warmer part of the year in shallow enclosed bays with dense meadows on the seabed. It is considered among the 4 most commonly stinging jellyfish in the Mediterranean Sea. It is highly stinging.
