Species profile
Walnut jellyfish is a ctenophore with an oval, transparent body up to 10 cm in length with two long lobes that can be widely open during feeding. There are 8 stripes of cilia along the body that are important for ctenophore locomotion. It is a non-native species in the Adriatic Sea and it is considered as one of the 100 most invasive species in the world. From 2016, its presence is reported year-round with large aggregations observed in summer and autumn.
Ctenophores do not have stinging cells. They are all not stinging.
