Mauve stinger

Latin name: Morska mjesečina
Species profile
It is a relatively small medusa of a bell diameter usually smaller than 10cm. Its colour varies between pink or violet to orange-brownish. There are many darker warts on the umbrella and on oral arms. Four-leaf-clover shaped gonads of intense pink or brown colour can be seen through the mesoglea. There are 8 tentacles on the umbrella margin that can be, when fully stretched, 2m long. It is considered as the most toxic jellyfish in the Mediterranean Sea. This jellyfish is highly stinging.
